Pre-Industrial Sugar Museum
In Motril, the Pre-Industrial Sugar Museum offers a window into the industrial past of the city and the entire Costa Tropical.
The museum is located in the historic Nuestra Señora del Pilar Sugar Factory, founded in 1883, which for more than a century transformed sugar cane into the economic and social engine of the region.
Here, among original machines, documents and restored spaces, visitors can discover how sugar was produced before full industrialization and understand the hard work and daily life of the people who made this industry possible.
A visit to the museum not only offers a cultural experience, but also provides a deeper insight into how the sugar industry shaped the local identity and contributed to the urban growth of Motril.
Visiting the Pre-Industrial Sugar Museum means stepping into an essential chapter of the city’s history, where tradition, technology and memory come together.
